manual install from linux. have searched thoroughly already.

linux manual install is ok. ipod loader is ok, and selecting apple os is ok.

d/l Linux-2.4.32-ipod2-cc.bin.gz (from several different sources) renamed to linux.bin. loader.cfg is all good, however on selecting ipod linux i get:

err: unknown file type (exactly same as a previous poster with bootloader issues)
along with the file size in bytes.

pulled my hair out and then even more annoyingly had to boot into windows and go through zeroslacker install. this all works. then repeated above (d/l to /boot dir ths time) with zeroslack and uncomment ipodlinux line from loader.cfg.. points to /boot/linux.bin. same error, however podzilla2-svn, encyclopodia etc.. is all ok.

so looks like a kernel image problem... but these files are from 2007 so that can't be the case. stumped

btw i am a full time linux user and i use linux to make a living, so therefore "well if zeroslack through windows works, don't complain" is not a proper answer. the whole point of linux is to continually improve it and make it better for everybody.

any help appreciated.

Why are you renaming a gunzipped file to a binary file? Ungzip it first. Unlike standard distros, our minimalistic bootloader (only a few KBs) doesn't support compressed kernels, just raw loading of uncompressed kernels ; (
