Install problems, need major help

First thing first, im not sure what generation Ipod Nano I have. According to Wiki, its the third generation but according to this website its the first. I downloaded the Installer 2, but it said it couldnt find my Ipod, so i tryed to install manually but as soon as I started up the Ipod patcher, it couldnt find it either. Im a noob as this so plz help

It's not hard to find out what generation your ipod nano is. Just take a look at what it looks like in the generations page: http://ipodlinux.org/Generations

iPodlinux cannot be installed on the 2nd and 3rd gen ipod nano.

If you still don't get it then:
- Can it play videos? (If yes its a 3rd gen nano)
- Does it come in several colors not just black and white? (If yes its a 2nd gen nano)
- Does it have a black/white front and a silver back? (If yes its a 1st gen nano)

If you have verified that your ipod nano is 1st gen then the reason why installer 2 did not detect your ipod is because you did not put it in disk mode. To put it in disk mode, open itunes, click on your ipod and tick disk mode. Then click apply. Try the installer again after that.

Alright thanks, I have a thrid gen. It has a black front with silver back but plays videos
