Margarelon
From iPodLinux
Margarelon is a window manager/user interface for iPod Linux based on the Podzilla Toolkit. It aims to replicate much of the original apple software's abilities, as well as extending them for power users.
History
Margarelon, originally named PTK/Podzilla, was started in the middle of April of 2004. Originally designed to be the successor to podzilla, it was based on the new Podzilla Toolkit, designed and coded by Efram (Matthew Sahagian). Upon basic completion of the toolkit, PTK/Podzilla, had initial work done towards window management, hierarchical event handling, and the creation of the basic menu system. The project was put on hold following the death of Efram's father. As podzilla progressed in it's natural state, attempts to return to project development garnered little interest. As of late Februrary 2005, the project has returned to full swing development with original goals, and some new ones in mind.
The project was renamed Margarelon to signify it's separation from podzilla and it's new place, not as a replacement podzilla, but as a separate user interface. It's name has Shakespearian meaning, as Margarelon was the name of the bastard son of Priam. Much like Margarelon, the character, the program is the bastard son of the iPod Linux project's early attempt to modularize podzilla.
Goals
- Replicate apple's user interface and design control to be identical to normal usage.
- Expand an extensible infrastructure through PTK by use of mouseless window management.
- Utilize modular technologies for its design and implementation (MPD and PTK).
