wow, thats really cool about sending a picture to the iPod over this protocol. I would love to see someone do this--theShadGuy 14:39, 2 Feb 2005 (CST)

Is it possible that mode 3 could potentially be for the photo import like that belkin device. It's the only unmentioned thing that is handled by the protocol.

Could be, I'd assumed that they would just detect a firewire compact flash drive and the correct resistor on the dock pins but there may also be a serial protocol. Anyone with one of these interesting in pulling it apart? --Leachbj

Missing Commands

Currently I´m doing some research on the protocol. This list is worth gold for me but it seems to me that there are missing a lot of commands. I changed the answere-Cmd. 0x00 0x01 and added the result 0x05 and the answere-Cmd 0x00 0x00.

Advanced and still use the click-wheel?

Is is possible to use the advanced mode and still leave the click-wheel active? I've got a clarion head unit and their EA1251B interface disables the iPod's controls. I'm considering making an adapter/interface that'd either block it from disabling the controls or intercept things such that it'd accomplish the same thing. But I don't know if the AiR mode supports this, anyone know? —wkearney99

So far, I've had no luck with this. I was hoping it was possible to briefly go into mode 4 (to retrieve track info) and then switch back to mode 2. However the switch to mode 4 pauses the iPod. (the workaround is to just send the play command quickly when you have got back to mode 2). However, worse is that if the iPod controls are used, then the external display would not be updated with the new track info. Shabaz 13:22, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

Character encoding

Does anyone have any information on the character encoding(s) used in the text responses? (song title, artist etc). --KMO 04:31, 16 Jun 2006 (CDT)

i do not, but if it's a non-roman script, it's most likely either UTF8 or UTF16 or Shift-JIS

Picture Block Color ??

It's very hard to understand how to send a picture on iPod... Finally, it work but it's juste a black and white picture (4 greyscale). Somebody know how to send a picture color ?? Nike can do that => http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/francestore?productLearnMore=MA365

You cant be sure of that, with the nike gear came updates for the iPods, the gfx for that could well be built in to the Apple firmware. rvvs89

Remote

Does any of this work in any meaningful way under linux? I mean, I'm guessing these commands trigger some apple api in the stock firmware, rather than emulating button presses on a hardware level... right? I was briefly contemplating brewing my own remote, or some kind of joystick/controller for doom using the dock... can anyone tell me if it's even possible without serious software modification?

Nike(plus)

Hey all,

I'm going to add in the little bit of info that is known about the nike plus protocol. I'm not sure how we "source" info for these articles, guideance and feedback is appreciated! Davandron 11:40, 9 Feb 2008 (CST)
