Use of "type" field
It used to say "(-1 for unused entries on newer pods)" about the type field, but I cannot agree with this - I've looked at the entries of 3G and 5G models with the latest updaters (as of May 2006), and never see a -1 there. I wonder if that was a mistake? If not, please revert my change, perhaps with an explanation where you see it here. Tempel 15:01, 4 Jun 2006 (CDT)
No more "iPod Updater" package distributed by Apple
It seems that starting with iTunes 7, Apple doesn't redistribute the iPod Updater as a separate download anymore. Using some MSI extracting tools has come up with nothing on the Windows front - I can't find the firmware files in there. I also managed to unpack the iTunes 7 installer and while the iPod Updater binary is there, the firmware files themselves are not. They must be downloaded on the fly now based on your detected iPod hardware? Chuma 11:58, 20 Sep 2006 (CDT)
Actually the files are now stored (on windows) at: C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
in .ipsw files, which are just zip files. Once you rename it to a .zip and extract it, you'll find the proper binary for the firmware update. --EvilDude 10:08, 27 Sep 2006 (CDT)
On macs, they're stored in /Users/[USERNAME]/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates and likewise, they are .ipsw zip files. --BleuLlama 13:31, 27 Sep 2006 (CDT)
